About Me
Hi, I’m Grace Deng, a Christian girl, student, artist, and dancer. Originally from China and now living in Canada, my experiences growing up between two cultures have shaped the way I see the world and inspire much of the work I create.
I was homeschooled until I was 13 before moving abroad to continue my education. Since then, I have balanced my academics and arts, looking for ways to use my God-given gifts to help those around me.
I explore across different fields, including visual art, film, music, and dance. At school, I serve as President of the Student Council and Editor in Chief of the school magazine. These experiences have helped me grow as both a creator and a leader while allowing me to collaborate with others who share similar passions.
Outside of school, I volunteer in community programs, and create personal projects that reflect the stories and ideas that matter to me. Through everything I do, I hope to help others, build connections, and make a difference.
Returning Home: China Diaries 2024
This vlog captures my return to China after three years—reuniting with friends, revisiting familiar places, and reflecting on how my two homes continue to shape who I am. It’s a personal chapter in my journey between cultures, where memory, identity, and creativity meet.
From China to Canada
I was born in China, where I was homeschooled until age 13. Growing up in a self-directed learning environment, I had a lot of freedom in exploring different things and using my creativity. I painted my first painting at 3, picked up the violin at 6, and put on my first ballet shoes at 8.
At 13, I moved to Canada and began studying in a new culture and academic system. This transition was challenging but it shaped who I am today.

As an AP Studio Art student, I've completed all three AP Art exams and received a top score on two of them (the third one's score has not been released yet).
I was also awarded with various national and international awards and recognition in art, such as the Art Canada Institute Student Challenge, the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards, and the MASK Awards.
Visual Storytelling Through My AP Art Portfolio
In this video, I share my full AP 2-D Art and Design portfolio, which received a top score of 5. Through each piece, I explore what it means to grow up as a teenager—navigating identity, pressure, faith, and memory through visual storytelling. This portfolio reflects how I use art to express, connect, and make sense of both the inner world and the world around me.

Pre-professional Dancer
After watching Swan Lake when I was five, ballet has always been my dream. At the age of eight, I was able to start learning ballet. Because I started at a relatively old age for dancers, it was a little challenging at first, but I was soon able to catch up.
After coming to Canada, I joined a pre-professional ballet company and received a principal role in our production of the Nutcracker.
High School Student
After transitioning from a homeschool environment to an actual school, I was able to achieve relatively high marks in all the classes I've took.
In grade 9 and 10, I was awarded the Highest Academic Award in my grade with a 99% and a 98.5% average.
I also had the honour to participate in the 2026 Yale Young Scholar program, which is a competitive program.

This vlog offers a realistic glimpse into my everyday life—juggling school exams, ballet rehearsals, and volunteering as an art teacher at Break Free Outreach Ministries Inc., where I lead creative sessions for underprivileged children. It’s a reflection of how I strive to live with purpose, using structure and creativity to grow, serve, and stay grounded.
